Thermocompression welding
For particularly high shear / tensile strength
With thermocompression welding, previously melted join parts are pressed together again. As a result, the current is concentrated in the tip through the gap in the thermode and heats this. This means there is no current flow through the components. The connection is created by diffusing the join parts. Insulation can also be soldered here before the connection is made.
The advantages of this technique are in the low level of distortion of the connected parts and the particularly high shear and tensile strength.
Typical application is:
- Contact of chips with the housing (wire bonding)
